How much has your council tax risen?
Across England the average area Band-D bill is up 61.2% since 2015-16 — faster than inflation, faster than pay. Put in your postcode and band to see your own band's bill over the decade, in real terms if you like, against CPIH and wages.
The headline is your bill — band-D is just the benchmark
“Band D” is the unit councils and the press use to compare areas — but it isn’t most people’s bill (most homes are bands A–C). So we lead with your own band, derived from each year’s area Band-D via the fixed statutory ratios, and offer band-D only as a “compare my area to the England average” toggle. Figures are the area-average Band-D (they include the average parish precept, so a specific parish may differ), and the real-terms view deflates by CPIH. Where an authority was reorganised (the April-2023 cohort and others) we start its line at the change rather than drawing a false continuous series. A rising bill is its own argument for checking your band is right.
