Is your council tax area overcharged?
Type your postcode for an instant read on your area, drawn purely from open government data: the most common band in your district, how often council-tax challenges in your local authority win a lower band, and — if you tell us your band — whether you look high versus your neighbours. It's free and takes two seconds.
Aggregate signals, not your address
The most common band comes from the Valuation Office (part of HMRC) band distribution for your local authority. The success rate is the share of resolved council-tax challenges in your authority that resulted in a lower band in FY2023-24 (where the authority figure isn't yet published we fall back to the regional rate). Figures are estimates from aggregate open data and labelled as such — your exact address can differ, which is what the full address check is for.
