What does "overbanded" mean?

Overbanded means you're paying more Council Tax than comparable neighbours for no good reason.

We say a property is "likely overbanded" when most of its comparable neighbours — same street or postcode, similar size and type — sit in a lower Council Tax band. That doesn't prove the band is wrong, but it's the same evidence the VOA itself looks for. If you're a band higher than 60% of the comparables we found, we flag it as worth challenging. The challenge is free; the worst that happens is the VOA confirms your existing band.
